While I may have been falling behind on my blog posts… I have not been falling behind on my adventures. Gathering the pictures for this post I’m feeling an overwhelming amount of gratitude for the lifestyle I have created for myself and the experiences I have had. I often throw around the word adventure. To me that word is not synonymous with fun (though of course it often is), it’s synonymous with living life to the fullest, exploring the world, challenging oneself, and experiencing personal growth through it all. Here’s a tribute to those moments:
Spontaneous Grand Canyon trip with Claire. We stopped at a huge Navajo fair in Tuba City where I picked up some roasted piñon pine nuts and sweet grass smudge, then we continued to the Grand Canyon where the mist and clouds and rain made for a beautiful and powerful vibe looking out from the South Rim. On Sunday we woke up for the sunrise and hiked down into the canyon on the Bright Angel Trail for a couple miles. Lots of rainbows were to be seen!
On our way (sort of) to the Grand Canyon we stopped in Telluride to see Matisyahu in concert and to do our yearly traverse of the Via Feratta.
Drove up to the Wind River Range in Wyoming for five days of alpine climbing on some of the most classic climbs in North America
Hiked into the Chicago Basin with a group of friends. Hauled in a rope and a rack so that we could climb Sunlight Spire, one pitch of 5.10 splitter crack at 14,000 feet. I’m told if it wasn’t considered a sub-peak (because of less then 300 feet of elevation difference between sunlight, the actual peak), it would be the hardest peak in Colorado to summit at that elevation!
Drove up to Boulder to take my American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Rock Climbing Instructor certification course. Battery died on the way up because of a shotty connection to the alternator. Easy fix that took me days to figure out. Passed the course and even got to climb the Ruper Crack in Eldorado Canyon before heading back south!
Went to Isla Mujeres outside of Cancun in Mexico. Big thanks to Claire’s parents John and Michele for inviting me along on their family trip!
Had some of my own family visitors in Durango.
Quick weekend trip to Moab. Ran up Looking Glass Rock, an easy multi pitch slab up an arch with a sweet free hanging 200 foot rappel.
The “Spring Perversion” gathering of conservation workers, wilderness guides and more to explore the canyons near the San Rafael Swell and have a pretty wild desert party.
And an amazing climbing trip to Penitente Canyon.
That’s what I got. My life is good. Ponty’s life is good. What’s next for life’s adventure? That is a really good question and right now I am searching for the answer. Let me know if you have any ideas!
